This calculator estimates grout quantity from joint geometry. It is useful for planning bags and cost, but it is not a substitute for the coverage table on your exact grout product. Tile edge profile, surface texture, joint cleanup, adhesive squeeze-up, diagonal layouts, and installer technique can change real consumption. Buy a sensible waste allowance and keep colour-matched extra grout for repairs.
Formula used
The calculator estimates grout volume from the linear length of joints per unit area, multiplied by joint width and joint depth.
grout volume = area × ((tile length + tile width) / (tile length × tile width)) × joint width × joint depth
grout weight = grout volume × grout density
weight with waste = grout weight × (1 + waste %)
bags needed = ceil(weight with waste / bag size)Worked example
For 12 m² of 300 mm × 600 mm tile, 3 mm joints, 8 mm joint depth, and grout density of 1700 kg/m³, the calculator estimates the raw grout weight and then adds your waste allowance before rounding up to full bags.
